In July of 2015 when I assumed the role of President of Roadrunner, after having spent the first 23 years of my career growing up in the FedEx stable of companies, I was clear on the value proposition that my new company represented. Since it’s inception, Roadrunner had worked to provide LTL shippers with an economical price that when applied to the ability to reverse plan your supply-chain, presented an excellent value. As the years have passed within the LTL industry though, the need for further increased levels of reliability and consistency have occurred, through enhanced planning tools, competition, and market conditions. It was these factors, combined with a strong internal desire for continued growth, that caused us to “go back to the drawing board” and listen to what our customers and the larger LTL space was asking for: an economical price AND high levels of reliability. So after months of analytical review, engineering, and long-term strategic planning, on February 10th we re-introduced our standard LTL product, with updated service standards that will provide an on-time service product with goal levels of 95%. Included in the changes and enhancements was the introduction of 14 key lanes offering guaranteed service for a nominal upcharge, roughly 10% of the standard invoice, with 100% of shipping charges waived if the shipment fails to deliver timely. These changes and commitment to high levels of reliability, when combined with the Roadrunner Guaranteed product, are clear examples of our direction and philosophy in protecting the dependability and planning of your supply-chain needs.
In conjunction with this announcement came expansions to our network, with brand new Service Centers opening in Dallas and Houston, replacing past facilities that we had outgrown. These new facilities represent a significant investment into the short and long term viability of our company, providing us the opportunity to increase our competiveness in these markets while we aggressively attack further growth in these key Texas markets. Last but not least is the announcement of our newest expansion into a direct market, with the opening of our Service Center in Memphis. One of the fastest growing distribution hubs in the World, direct presence into this key market will provide our customers with increased speed and coverage within the Tennessee/Mississippi area.
With great respect to our history and what brought us to where we are today, the Team at Roadrunner couldn’t be more excited with our enhanced commitment to service, quality, damage-free handling, high levels of communication via our new operating platform, and ultimately providing you with the ability to choose a premium experience when selecting an economical LTL product. As we move forward, we will be furthering work to accentuate our strengths, while working to rebuild our reputation as a service provider that you can grow your business with, while not exceeding your transportation/shipping budget.
