Tell us a little about your education.(Where you went, what you majored in, etc.)
I have an associate’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management which I obtained from
Estrella Mountain Community College. Currently I am working on my Bachelors in Business
Management at GCU- Go Lopes! lol
Where were you working before finding GTZ?
Before I started at GTZ I was working as a front desk manager at the Hilton Suites in downtown phoenix. I enjoyed that position because I had the ability to make positive changes that impacted our guest satisfaction scores. I also worked on a committee called Blue Energy which is similar to our C.O.R.E committee. Through the Blue Energy committee I was able to create and implement programs that boosted employee morale and helped support local community organizations.
What exactly do your job duties entail?
At GTZ I am part customer service agent, part billing agent and part investigator. I act as a liaison between our agents and the carriers we work with to correct billing discrepancies.
What makes you successful at what you do?
I think what makes me successful and what makes many people successful is that I want to come in to work and do a good job. My parents taught me at a young age, “any job that is worth doing is worth doing right AND worth doing right the first time.” Being recognized as a hard worker is something that is important to me; I think having a strong work ethic is a very admirable characteristic.
What do you like most about working for GTZ?
There are a lot of things I enjoy about working at GTZ. There are some really great people that work here; shout out to POD 2!! As well as Danessa, Jared, David/Carl and Vic. Without these wonderful peeps my day would certainly be less fun. I really enjoy the freedom here. I enjoy the freedom to play cubie beach ball for a couple of minutes when the day seems to be getting the best of us. I enjoy being able to dress comfortably and kick off my shoes at my desk. I have never worked for a company that understood and appreciated the concept of work-life balance as much as GlobalTranz does. I love being able to come in early or stay late as things outside of work pop-up. I also find it exciting to work for a company that is forward thinking and growing and striving to be one of the best in the industry. It is exciting to know that I work for a company that is willing to train and develop its team if they wish to pursue other opportunities in different departments.
What are some of your past accomplishments while working here?
One of the coolest things I have been a part of while working here is the Food Drive that we did this past Thanksgiving. I know it might sound lame…”Oh the food drive”… but we were able to raise 407 food items for people who were in need and that rocks! I will admit, if you worked in the corporate office at the time, I felt like I was being a little bit of a harasser, but I thought it was worth it because as a team we came together and made a positive difference in the lives of many people. Just knowing that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and I am sure for a lot of you, it makes you feel the same. I enjoy working with C.O.R.E and I look forward to the many awesome things that we can accomplish this year.
Do you have a most memorable moment at GTZ?
I have two favorite moments; one was during Halloween time at the old office. It was fun how we all decorated our cubes and my POD girls and I dressed up. It was the kick off to the holiday season and it rocked!
My second favorite is when we played cubie beach ball at the office for the first time. Nate was involved and if you know Nate you know he is fairly reserved. It was good for him to hit the ball around with us and tell us some things we did not know about him, like that he loved soccer.
What are your career goals?
My short-term carrier goal is to be the master of IR…j/k. But I would like to stay here for a while and really master this position. There is a lot to know about IR and I truly feel like I learn something new every day. Eventually, I would love to find myself in an HR role, where I can participate in creating fun events for the staff to participate in. I enjoy roles where I can provide support and answer questions
My long-term goal is to open a bed and breakfast. I would like to do this near the water somewhere. Outside AZ and a place with plenty of trees and grass with the smell of salty air being a predominant factor. I would love to have dogs running around the property, cows and an herb garden.
I am originally from Rio Linda, Ca. Rio Linda is a small town outside of Sacramento. My sister and her family live there and my Dad recently moved back. I enjoyed Sacramento as a city to grow up in. There was always something to do and it’s in a great location. You are basically 2 hours from S.F. or two hours from Tahoe.
What do you like to do in your spare time? (Hobbies, sports, etc.)
In my spare time I teach a kid karate class, which I love to do! I also train, twice a week. Well, at this point being 8 months pregnant, I am limited in what I can do, but I am very much looking forward to getting back to my old training habits. I also enjoy going to the gym, swimming, biking and pretty much anything outdoors. Likewise, I enjoy working on cars and doing home improvement projects with my husband, although these typically end in many hours with nothing accomplished and many trips to home depot and an occasional fight or two on how to best get the project completed.
Traveling is one of my favorite things, but we all know that it’s expensive so it does not happen as often as I like. I love to cook and garden even though I can’t seem to get the plants in my backyard to stay alive. I like to go dancing and I would really like to learn how to country line dance, but my husband despises dancing so it makes it a little difficult.
What’s something about you that most people don’t know?
One thing that people don’t know about me is that I am a fourth degree black belt in Kyokushin Karate. I am been in the martial arts for 20 years and it is something that I will do until my body won’t let me do anymore. I am a third generation student currently studying under Hanshi Fred Buck. Hanshi is like a father to me and I look forward to every Monday and Wednesday when we train.
