On April 27th, GlobalTranz participated in National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
The event allows children to be exposed to the work life of their parents and gives them an early introduction to a typical work day. According to the Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation, this day shows kids “the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future, and allowing them to begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment is key to their achieving success.”
GlobalTranz organized a series of events for the day, including tours of the office, games, and the opportunity to get up close and personal with a full-size tractor trailer truck – courtesy of Swift Transportation.
To create real-world working environment for the kids to experience, GlobalTranz’ head of recruiting taught the group what it was like to be an applicant at GlobalTranz. HR then hired them as employees for the day and explained how payroll and taxes work. Timecards were created for each child, so all “hours worked” could be recorded. A GlobalTranz store was set up so kids could spend their earnings on t-shirts, Frisbees, sunglasses and other swag.
Exploring the Swift Transportation truck and meeting the truck driver were big highlights of the day – providing kids an exciting and fun way to learn about the business of logistics.
